Foreigners, who move to Slovakia, experience difficulties when gathering and preparing all required documents. A translator into Slovak will always be needed at that.
All documents issued abroad must be officially certified, i.e. with apostille / superlegalization and officially translated into Slovak, and this requires services of Slovak translator. The foreigners often come with their translation, made in their native country. And here the necessity to re-execute these documents arises, because public authorities do not accept such translations and demand their confirmation by sworn translators in Slovakia, registered in the List of Experts and Translators of the Ministry of Justice (which is available at http://jaspi.justice.gov.sk/)
List of official documents subject to sworn translation:
- certificate of no criminal record (and other documents issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs) with apostille;
- certificate of birth/ marriage/ death/ divorce with apostille;
- confirmation from banks on the availability of funds;
- academic certificates with apostille (graduation certificates, diplomas, supplements to them);
- national certificates of conferring an academic degree;
- certificates of registration of legal entities and individual entrepreneurs;
- tax service documents;
- medical documents;
- other notarized/issued documents that require official legalization in Slovakia.
Legal translator in Slovakia binds original documents with the translated ones, binding and sealing them, confirming that the translation is official and can be used in legal processes.
